BS Flies and Henry's Lake

2011 continues to be an awesome year!! I have fished it on a weekly basis and have not been disappointed.

Every cast has the opportunity to hook-up with a trophy.

26+ inches and just under 9lbs

This year has produced some good sized Hybrids and it's been amazing the number of brook trout we've caught in the 4lb range!

Stillwater fly fishing on Idaho's Henry's Lake

The excitement of big fish and brook trout is what makes Henry's Lake so much fun. The midge hatch has pretty much ended and a few caddis are starting to appear. Thursday and Saturday (June 23 & 25) both fished very well.

This year, like last year, has produced good size and numbers of Brook trout. We have already landed brookies up over 4lbs. This one is not that big but was a blast to catch!
Henry's lake is a strong hold for the Yellowstone Cutthroat trout. The bulk of the fish we landed were cutt'ies.

Henry's Lake, Brookies, and Yellowstone Cutt's

The weather this time was just warm enough for sandles, barely. The midges (snow fly hatch) are starting to pick up and when the sun gets shining they are just about unbearable. We checked the diet to three of the fish we landed, each was different. Their stomach contents ranged from Midges to Leeches to Scuds. It seemed they each had a different favorite. All of the fish were fat and happy.

Last year we saw a lot of Brookies and this year is looking about the same. Who could complain about a nice fat brooke trout?

Henry's Lake, Sheridan Lake, Blackfoot Reservoir

Brookie's, Bow's, and Carp

We started off fishing Henry's Lake in the morning, which was a chilly 35 F. but by 2:30p.m. it had finally warmed up to a whole 44 F. This is on the 9th of June! Later in the evening the fishing picked up on Sheridan Lake, with some midges coming off pretty good. Friday provided an opportunity to take my two boys to Blackfoot Reservoir and hook into some carp. Until just recently I had never taken the chance on carp but they have proven to be a fun time.

Cold weather but plenty of fish on Henry's Lake.

A couple of Rainbows on Sheridan Lake--fly fishing only!

Man, it was a fun weekend!!

Carp on the fly @ Blackfoot Reservoir

A couple of pics from Carp Classic VII on Blackfoot Reservoir. The first day of the tournament was windy, cloudy, and cold. The second day shaped up and the fishing was great!!

Henry's Fork

A couple of fish from today's float on the Henry's Fork. Fishing was ok, with lots of wind.
